Gordon Ramsay reveals skin cancer scare as chef undergoes urgent surgery

Gordon Ramsay has revealed he has undergone treatment to remove skin cancer.

The celebrity chef shared the news with fans on social media, posting a photo of a stitched-up scar beneath his ear.

The 58-year-old expressed his gratitude to the medics who treated him and urged fans to wear sunscreen.

Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is the most common form of skin cancer which often occurs in areas most exposed to the sun, such as the face.

Mr Ramsay wrote to his more than 19 million followers on Instagram: “Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma thank you!

“Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund.'”

Fans were quick to take to the comments to thank the Hell’s Kitchen star for raising awareness of BCC and wish him a quick recovery.

“Great that you are sharing your diagnosis, bringing awareness and speedy recovery,” one person commented.

Replying to the post, Cancer Research UK said: “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun.

“Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

According to the research charity, around 75 per cent of non melanoma skin cancers are BCCs.

People who are middle aged or older are most often diagnosed with these cancers.

In June of last year, Mr Ramsay revealed he was “lucky to be alive” after a bike accident in Connecticut.

“I’m doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato,” he wrote to Instagram at the time.

He encouraged fans to wear a helmet and doubled-down on being “lucky to be standing here”.
